Instant Interest for Windows

DLL/OCX Folder

Instant Interest, like most Windows programs, uses shared modules for common functions. Normally these files have .DLL and .OCX extensions. Generally these files are stored in the Windows System directory on the user's workstation. Versions of these modules are backwards compatible (meaning newer versions will perform all of the same functions as older ones) and installation programs contain protections against overwriting newer version with older ones.

There are rare cases in which a poorly designed installation program overwrites a DLL or OCX file with an incompatible older version. For this reason, Instant Interest gives you the option of storing the modules used by Instant Interest in the Instant Interest application directory. This insures that Instant Interest uses the versions that it ships with, thus protecting against incompatible versions that may have been installed in the Windows System directory. We generally recommend that you install the application with the "Windows System Directory" first and only use the "Application Directory" option if problems occur. You definitely do not want to use the "Application Directory" option if the application is running from a network drive as it may cause excessive network traffic.
