Apply UpdateThe Apply Update option on the Tools Submenu, the Update button, and the Update shortcut (Ctrl-U) all perform the same function. They are used to initiate a process to update the installed version of one or more of the following Instant Interest files:
When you initiate the Apply Update process, the following panel is displayed: Use this panel to indicate whether the source of the update being applied is the A or B drive or if it is being downloaded from the Internet using the File Transfer Protocol functions built into Instant Interest. Clicking Cancel will abandon the update operation. If you choose the first option and click the OK button, Instant Interest will apply the update from the corresponding location with no further prompts. If you choose "The Internet" a dialog box will be displayed that asks you to enter a Customer ID. If you have been given a Customer ID, enter it and click on the OK button. After you enter the Customer ID once, it will be stored in your initialization file (ii32.ini in your Windows directory), so you will not need to re-enter it. If you do not have a Customer ID, click on the "Register" button. This will open your Web browser to the Customer Registration Form (http://www.candcsoftware.com/CustReg.htm). After you submit this form you will receive an e-mail response within 24-48 hours telling you what your company's Customer ID is. Before using the Internet update for the first time we recommend that you update your system to use the most version of the Version Update program by downloading the latest version of our Version Update program (UpdtVer.exe) from our FTP site to the Instant Interest program directory. You can find this directory by looking in the Defaults panel. Note: In order to use the Internet update function of Instant Interest you must meet the following prerequisites:
Applying an Update from the InternetOnce your have etnered a Customer ID, Instant Interest will attempt to compare the versions of the updateable files on your system with the latest versions loaded to C&C Software's Web site. If an error message is displayed, it generally means that your corporate firewall does not allow the use of the File Transfer Protocol. At that point you have two choices:
If the comparison is successful, Instant Interest will display the following dialog box: There are three components which may be updated from the C&C Software Web site--the Program File, the Rate File, and the Help File. For each file, if the date/time of the last version of the file on your system is earlier than the date/time of the downloadable version on the C&C Software Web site, a check mark will be placed in the corresponding box. To proceed with downloading the newer versions and applying them as updates to your installation, click on the "Download" button. To cancel the download and abandon the update operation, click on the "Exit" button. When the update has been either downloaded and applied or cancelled, you will see the following message: Note:Continued access to updates is contingent upon payment of the annual update fees to C&C Software.
